Description

Brass English 5-inch plotting scale signed "S HORSEMAN", with fish-skin covered case. Undated. Early 18th century.

There are scales of 1/10, 1/20, 1/30, 1/100, 1/200 and 1/300 of an inch.

Stephen Horseman (fl. 1702-24) was an instrument-maker and a clock-maker. He was the apprentice and successor of Daniel Quare.
