Compound microscope with accessories and case by Swift, London. This binocular microscope (.1) is carried in trunnions on a heavy base. The body tubes are held on the limb by a rack and pinion. Coarse focusing is by two milled knobs and fine focusing is by a graduated knob on the limb. The slides are held on the stage by a mechanical bracket that adjusts their position. A polarizing prism is mounted on a hinge over the right eyepiece. A series of gears rotates the prism in unison with the substage condenser. The wooden case also contains four eyepieces marked 1, 1, 3 and 3 (.2), seven objectives in copper alloy canisters ranging from 1/12 inch to 2 inches (.3), a prism in a copper alloy tube (.4), stage forceps on a copper alloy plate (.5), a copper alloy can of dark field stops (.6), two stage spring clips (.7), a stage goniometer and two attaching screws with copper alloy heads (.8), a camera lucida (.9), a concentric sleeve (.10), two sliders and a quartz wedge (.11). The wooden case (.12) has a carrying handle, interior compartments for the accessories and a hinged door with a panel and a locking mechanism. The key is attached to the handle via a length of string.
