Description
This is a mahogany box lined with blue velvet that was made specially in 1890 to hold an achromatic lens made by Bernardino Marzoli in 1811. The box has a hinged lid with an engraved plaque, detailing the donation of the lens to the R.M.S.
1811 is an early date for an achromatic objective lens. B. Mazoli was Curator of the Physical Laboratory of the Lyceum of Brescia. He published a paper on his work in the 'Commentary della Academia di Science' (Breschi 1808).
