Description

Albumen print (?or sepia toned early gelatine print) mounted on card, cabinet format. Portrait of an unidentified Greenwich astronomer (probably E. W. Maunder), head and shoulders, turned to left and looking nearly front, vignetted. The serial number is slightly higher than that of Airy on his 90th birthday (49808), hence the date is 1891/92.

Formerly contained in H. H. Turner's album of cabinet format portraits of Royal Observatory staff and other astronomers (13001), now empty. For a list of other photographs not in this album see narratives.
