Description

The stand of this copper alloy drum microscope consists of a cylinder that screws onto a weighted, circular base. A section is cut away near the base to allow light to the mirror, mounted on a spindle. A knob on the side of the stand adjusts the angle of the mirror. A second cut away section supports the rectangular stage above the mirror. The upper part of the stand acts as a sleeve that holds the body tube. A rack and pinion at the rear of the sleeve moves the body up and down for focusing, controlled by a knob to the side of the mechanism. The eyepiece pushes into the top of the body tube and an internal thread at the lower end takes the conical objective. A dovetail slot on the front of the stand holds the mounting for a superstage condensing lens. The fitted case is mahogany and the lid is padded with green silk. The case also contains a spare lens and eyepiece and ten glass slides with micrographs.
