Description
Rectangular wooden box with a removable wooden lid and an inset wooden board with a hole in the middle. Inside of the hole, there is a round ceramic basin. In the centre of the basin, there is a cylindrical metal tin with a removable lid. The marine chronometers would be placed in the tin, then surrounded by ice in the ceramic basins to test their ability to withstand the cold. (Associated oven inv. 11092.)
