Description
Large framed map of the Nebula of Orion, drawn in white (white paint and chalk) on black paper. The nebula is drawn on a grid, with a diagram of a trapezium bottom right and a scale of magnitudes down to 14-5; Herschel's stars (31) and Lassell's stars (34) are distinguished.
Marked: 'The Nebula of Orion. | This Index Map of the stars in this Nebula is compiled, from the Cape Observations of Sir John Herschel, | and from the drawing made by Mr. Lassell at Malta in 1862 & 1864, & presented by him to the Royal Society in 1868. | Ferndene 1884. ... R S Newall'.
