Description

Celestial globe in library stand, with magnetic compass in base and brass-coated latitude scale mounted through the poles. Magnetic compass has Iron needle . Mounted on tripod-type oak (?) base with caster wheels.

Globe is scratched, worn and extensively pitted in parts, with small sections of paper covering missing. The equatorial circle band is extensively damaged and pitted in parts. Glass covering magnetic compass cracked.

Globe with colophon beginning "Cary's new and improved celestial globe ...", and ending "Made and sold by J. & W. Cary, No. 181 Strand, Mar. 1 1799".
