Description
Wooden box with copper alloy clasps and broken leather strap, semi-fitted interior, containing 35 3¼-inch square glass lantern slides in two sequences: 11 showing Balbardie Colliery, Bathgate [West Lothian] with particular reference to the coal sorting and cleaning installation; 24 showing topographical views, chiefly ruins [including Tintern Abbey] and countryside landscapes with rivers [presumably in the Wye Valley, Monmouthshire], but one of them Monnow Street, an urban street with horse-drawn cart and distant spire [the main street of Monmouth; looks Victorian in date]. The slides probably have nothing to do with the Elliott firm (and are not the ones recorded as given in 1950 by Frank Berryman), though those of the colliery clearly belonged to an engineer involved in the design of the coal sorting installation.
