Photograph of Geiger (left) and Rutherford sitting on stools beside apparatus in Geiger's laboratory at the Physical Laboratories, Manchester University. Geiger worked at Manchester with Rutherford in 1907-12, and devised apparatus for detecting radio-active particles that was the forerunner of the Geiger counter. Horizontal format. Tear and crease. The photograph belonged to Alexander Smith Russell (1888-1972), who worked at Manchester 1911-14. See also 12781 and 12782.
