Description

Scrapbook bound in dark blue cloth, the binding (boards and spine as one piece) completely detached. Flyleaf + 101 leaves (numbered 1-99 plus 19B and 31B) + flyleaf. Index on ff.87-94. Contains a mixture of newspaper and magazine cuttings, printed ephemera, photographs, and photocopies relating to the Old Ashmolean Building and its history, and to the Museum of the History of Science.

Older papers or photographs have not generally been inserted, most printed contents dating from the 1920s onwards and most photographs from the 1950s to 1980. The 7 earlier photographs are as follows: part of the Top Gallery of the Museum (physics display case in SE corner) in 1933 (f.20v); 4 early (and 2 later, 1951) of armorial windows and designs for same, 1920s-30s (ff.33v-38r); Country Life photograph of detail of external east front carving (f.68v); and part of Lewis Evans's long wall case in the Museum, Times photograph, undated (f.19v).
