Description

Engraved frontispiece to Thomas Sprat, History of the Royal Society ... (London, 1667). A bust of Charles II on an inscribed pedestal is flanked by the figures of Lord Brouncker, the first President of the Royal Society, and Francis Bacon, the 'artium instaurator'. Scientific instruments are depicted in the background, and the Royal Society's coat of arms is at the top. Framed and glazed (mounted, framed, and captioned for display in the Museum).
