Description

Stereoscopic transparency consisting of two positive photographs of the Moon, printed by the collodion process. Bound together with red cloth under a cover-glass and red paper mat, the latter with printed titles in gold lettering. The slide is approximately 3¼ by 6¾ inches, the moon's disc just under 2 inches diameter. The full Moon shows slight longitudinal difference, and the right-hand image is much more crisp and contrasty. Broken at right on both sides (cover glass and actual photographic plate, latter more severely, though intact); also damp and dirt stained (a heavy stain or encrustation on the cover glass has been removed).

Compare the stereoscopic photograph by the leading American lunar photographer at the same time, J. A. Whipple (13216).
