Description
Clockwork mechanism modelling the transit of Venus across the solar disc, made for the Museum's 2004 reconstruction of Benjamin Martin's 'artificial transit' demonstration model of 1769. One of two. This one (number 2, inventory no.13394) has a back-plate and was fitted in the working model and operational, the other (number 1, inventory no.13395) was a duplicate for exhibition purposes, without a back-plate.
