Description

Mahogany sliding box camera with curved plate holder taking exposures 250 x 140 mm, a simple flap shutter, and spherical glass lens.

Thomas Sutton's unique water filled spherical lens design was patented in 1859. It gave a wide-angled panoramic view, which required a special curved glass plate and developing tank. Other panoramic cameras of the time had to use a moving lens to achieve the same effect.
