Description
Retorts for heating a distillate were usually of glass, but also of earthenware and porcelain. They were cheaper than alembics. The 'tubulated' retort had the usual long funnel to convey substances into the body and an additional stoppered neck in the body. Green glass retorts were at the cheaper end of the market and could not cope with the hottest fires.
