Description

Dental Chisel, Late 18th Century. Chisel end of the tool has a trapezoid-shaped head, with a flat oval shape between the head and the handle. The other end is round and enlarged. Spiral grooves along the handle of the object that provide extra grip as well as serving as a decoration. Unlike modern dental chisels, which are used largely for cleaning purposes, antique dental chisels were used more as extraction devices, functioning much like traditional chisels to dig into the gum line to remove teeth.
