Description

A method for absorbing a distillate or gas in water was described by the chemist and mineralogist Peter Woulfe in 1767. The two- and three-necked bottles shown here are modifications of a later date. The three-necked version has been ascribed to Jean Hassenfratz, and was designed to prevent water being sucked up into the apparatus.
