Brief Description
This essential medicine was unavailable to patients who needed it during the early part of the pandemic, due to rumours in the media that it may prevent COVID-19 infection. It is a medication used to treat malaria and several rheumatological diseases, and is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines. The shortage caused by speculative buying illustrates the desperation of the public for a cure at this time and the impact the media could have on the course of the pandemic.
