Purchased in 1993 by Sir Jack Edward Baldwin (1938-2020) Waynflete Professor of Chemistry and Head of Department of Organic Chemistry at the University of Oxford until he retired in 2005. Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1978 and knighted for his contributions to the field of organic chemistry in 1997.

Description

A microscope, known as Van Heurck model, signed Watson circa 1900. Housed in a mahogany case width accessories. It has attachments to for both binocular and monocular use. Accessories associated with this microscope include five objectives, five ocular eyepieces, three camera lucida's attachments, two nical prisms, three rotating nose pieces, one Wenham parabolic illuminator, one mechanical specimen holder. The microscope is inscribed with the manufacturer's name and address: 'W.Watson & Sons Ltd, 313 High Holborn, London' and numbered '17701'
