Compound microscope with case, accessories case, stage plate, lens with rackwork, three-pronged tenaculum, fishplate, two specimen clamps, Martin's triple stage, support, rackwork, peg, substage mirror, substage condenser, glass dish, three stage forceps, three objectives, arm, microscope key, small circular box, plate with aperture, trough, live box, cone condenser, tweezers, compressor, three glass discs, three black and white discs, ivory disc in wood mounting, body tube, spring stage, clamp and holder, rotating glass disc and half disc, and key. This is the largest of Martin's microscopes, called the 'Grand Universal' (two others known). The long pillar of triangular section is attached by a hinged joint to a flat tripod. Each leg is in the form of an open-work curve terminating in a pedestal. The back of the pillar is cut with rackwork that adjusts the positions of the plano-concave mirror and the stage. The body, mounted on an arm at the top of the pillar, is in two sections, each with its own rackwork.
