Description

Mahogany case with a hinged lid and a key locking mechanism. The lid has a metal oval uninscribed plaque on the lid and has metal brackets running round the case. Inside the case are wooden blocks with cut-out impressions to store the instruments. There are three small metal pivoting brackets and one fixed metal bracket to hold instruments in place. The box contains: A metal straight edged knife blade with a stem which inserts into a handle. A larger metal serrated edged blade with a stem which inserts into a handle. A set of two metal bars with sharpened pointed ends, held together by a pivot in the middle. These fold out so the instrument is in a 'X' shape. A set of three metal hooks on chains which are attached to a metal ring, possibly used as tension hooks. A metal chisel blade with a stem which inserts into a handle. A pair of metal round-tipped scissors. A small ivory-handled metal scalpel. A metal scalpel with a Bakelite covered handle. The scalpel blade is larger than the other scalpel and the handle has a square hole cut through it. A metal mallet with a round blunt end opposite a sharper chisel-like end. The mallet has a Bakelite covered handle. A curved needle with an eye at one end, tapering to a triangular cross-section point.
