Description

The stand is made up of two turned rods that screw to each other and into a flat, folding tripod foot. A steel pin at the top of the stand fits into a decorative copper alloy bracket that carries the optical components. A copper alloy plate with a central slot supports the stage and focusing mechanism. The stage consists of a metal upper part of two thin steel bars held together by two transverse thin copper alloy bars, producing a rectangular stage hole. Below this is a second copper alloy stage, with a circular hole, that slides on its mounting and is held in place with a tightening screw. Sliders or an articulated mounting for stage forceps can be held between the two parts of the stage. The stage is attached to a copper alloy bar behind the back plate through the slot. Operating a lever moves the stage vertically for focusing. A pinhole at the bottom of this bar holds the mounting of the concave mirror. At the top of this assembly is a copper alloy plate, inscribed with the manufacturer's name, with a blackened eyecup. Dovetail slots on the underside of the plate take slides with lenses, a Lieberkühn or a lens in a Lieberkühn. A copper alloy case with six ivory sliders and an ivory talc box containing split rings and mica windows are also present. There are also four spare metal components, a mirror with inscribed drawing on the back and two stands. The case is covered with fish skin and lined with green velvet. Three paper stickers on the outside "Royal Micro. Society 303".
