Description

This copper alloy instrument stands on a flat tripod foot inscribed with the manufacturer's name. A cylindrical pillar has a triple mill-edged tightening collar at its top and an inner pillar that telescopes upward. A sliding sleeve on the outer pillar carries a vertical post on an articulated arm. There are two sleeves on the post. One holds an empty horseshoe mount and the other a candle holder. A cylindrical limb is held in a sleeve, with a tightening screw, carried on a compass joint at the top of the pillar assembly. The mechanical stage is set on a bracket at the top of the limb. A rack and pinion behind the stage mounting raises a bar with a triangular cross section to which the arm that holds the body tube is attached. The eyepiece pushes into the top of the body which screws onto the arm. Objectives screw onto the underneath of the arm. A sliding collar on the limb below the stage carries the concave mirror in a horseshoe mount.
