Description

1. Chamber with table 1mm thick (= that of a standard microscope slide) so that a condenser of high numerical aperture could be used to improved resolution.

2. Template for #1.

3. Holding ring for top of #1. The other parts of this were similar to those shown in the box with the ear-warmer.

4. Template for #5.

5. Preformed tissue chamber (see R. G. Williams, 1954) for observing the original connective tissue on the outer side of the pinna of the ear, complete with its intact vessels, nerves and lymphatics. Standard spacing of fixing studs.

6. Template for #7.

7. Large preformed tissue chamber with thin silver baseplate and mica stuck over the central hole.

8. Copper alloy device for making spring washers from sheet celluloid. One such washer is shown on the screw in the black paper circle. Spring washers were needed as the pressure of the coverslip in the tissue is very critical.
