Description

On the upward stroke, the partial vacuum produced in the cylinder causes the lower valve to open and water to enter, while the valve in the piston is kept closed by the air pressure.

On the downward stroke , the bottom valve closes and the water pushes past the valve in the piston and pours from the spout. This model represents the pump that for most householders was the only way of obtaining water.
