Primary inscriptions
'Breguet et Fils | An VII No 291 | JANVIER Invt et Fecit.' The armillary carries various engraved inscriptions: on the polar cap "POLE BOREAL OU PLÛTOT ARCTIQUE" and "LE TROPIQUE DU CANCER QUE LE SOLEIL PARCOURT LE VINGT-UN DE JUIN" and "TROPIQUE DU CAPRICORNE QUE LE SOLEIL PARCOURT LE VINGT-UN DECEMBRE".

Description

Astronomical clock in long mahogany case, panelled on all sides with glass, and dated An VII [= 1798/9]. Presumably mainly constructed and designed entirely by Antide Jantier, but carrying the inscription: 'Breguet et Fils / An VII No 291 / JANVIER Invt et Fecit.' Dials for mean and true solar time, lunar position and phase. Surmounted by armillary, driven by the movement, and carrying a Sun and Moon. Pendulum (compensated) 1 m. long.
