Card tag with MS inscription "Mr Rousselet's / Example of / Varleys Graphic Telescope"; in another hand in red ink "patented 5th April 1811". Attached to string is another tag "No. 132". But note that inv. 27599 says it was presented to RMS by Rousselet.

Description

Graphic telescope, manufactured by Cornelius Varley. Telescope consists of a main tube with a removable dust cap. The main tube is engraved with the manufacturer's name. A single draw tube slides into the main tube. and eyepiece at right angles; alternative eyepiece attachment. Mirror of main tube missing; one eyepiece mirror missing, the other loose. An eyepiece receiver extends at a right angle to the main body. Two conical shaped eyepieces of different sizes are present.
