Description
The photograph was probably taken a year or two earlier, the lantern slide version made in or about 1898. Marion Sarah Acland was the wife of one of Miss Acland's younger brothers, Francis. She is shown wearing a wristwatch, or rather a small pocket watch mounted on a wrist strap, the prototype of the wristwatch; it is one of the earliest known photographs showing this innovation.
