Description

This instrument demonstrates the relative motions of the Sun, Mercury, Venus, the Earth and the Moon.

A crank handle drives exposed gearing for the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Moon. The Earth is represented by a printed paper globe; the Moon is missing. The orrery has a wooden case. The Earth, Sun, handle, 4 other attachments and a small nut are separate.

John Jones was the father of William and Samuel Jones. Orreries of this kind were designed by William following the suggestions of James Ferguson.
