Description
Box and parts for miscellaneous microscopes, English, late 18th century. Non-contemporary oak box (.1) [probably for drawing instruments] with a hinged lid, a locking mechanism, velvet facings and containing miscellaneous parts, including copper alloy fishplate (.2), an objective (.3), four copper alloy eyepieces of various sizes and a shallow wooden rack with cut-off corners, the largest of the eyepieces sits in the middle of the rack (.4), two tightening screws and a washer with a screw (.5), a black wooden microscope slide "No 6" with solid specimens (.6), a copper alloy dish (.7) and two handles for adjusting a telescope(?), one with a shiny shaft and an ivory rectangular plate at one end (.8) and another with a dull shaft and a two-pronged blunt fork (.9)
