Description

Small albumen print mounted on card, cut down (unevenly), probably from a carte de visite. Portrait of an unidentified man, head, semi-profile looking left, vignetted (though the trimming obscures it). Stains. A faint grid of pencil lines is drawn over the head, including angles of forehead and cheek, indicating that the photograph has been used by an artist for a drawn or painted portrait. It resembles John Tyndall (1820-1893), but if the remains of the trimmed pencil inscription (ending 'March 1864') represent a name it is not that.
