Description

This piece of apparatus combines a sub stage condenser containing a field lens in blue glass with rack adjustment for focusing, a sliding frame with two central stops for dark-ground illumination and a large wheel that carries on it four items: seven-graded aperture disc, 3 aperture disc that rotates behind the Nicol prism polarizer, a revolving cap for test objects, and a shutter for oblique light.

The design was suggested by W H Hall  and described by him in 'On a new form of condenser with a blue tinted field lens' (TransRMS 16 (1868))95
