Description
Collodion positive on glass (ambrotype), enclosed. Portrait of a young woman, seated nearly half length, facing front and looking directly at the camera lens. Hand tinted. Enclosed in brass frame and decorated oval brass mat. Small format. Companion of 13610.
The photographer's name printed or stamped on the backing paper is an extremely unusual feature, collodion positives being almost invariably anonymous, unlike their immediate successor the carte de visite. Gough is known from cartes de visite of the 1860s, which give his address as Black-Jack Street, Cirencester.
