Description

Compound microscope with accessories and case. This large brass copper alloy microscope stands on a turned pillar on a heavy flat tripod foot. A compass joint holds a plate that carries the limb and mechanical stage. A steadying bracket is attached to the rear of the plate and the top of the limb. The mechanisms to move the stage plate are inside an octagonal housing. A stage plate on top of this moves forward and backward, side to side and rotates. A sprung bracket on the plate holds specimens. The limb is has a triangular cross section with rack and pinion mechanisms to focus the body and condenser inside. Two knobs set above the stage move a sleeve with arms holding the body tube. A similar sleeve below the stage holds a condenser mounting and the Plano-concave mirror. The eyepiece pushes into the top of the body and the conical nose has an internal thread for objectives. The mahogany case also holds a rectangular stage and an accessory box with a sprung phial holder, a Nicol prism polarizer, an accessory arm, three dark wells, a stage bracket or rest, two eyepieces and a tommy-bar.
