Description

With this construction C. H. Wilkinson (1804) arrested the electrolytic action of the plates when the battery was not is use. Five cells in a mahogany tray each consists of a glass container (one replaced by earthenware), a thin copper plate in a wooden frame with a zinc plate on each side and copper alloy terminals on top; all units are suspended in a rectangular wooden frame, raised by crank, ratchet and chains.
