Description

Solar microscope or megaloscope with accessories in case, early 19th century. The instrument (.1) has a rack arm for focussing with a sleeve. Two powers in tubes fit in this sleeve; the mirror moves with a worm and rack. A square copper alloy plate (.2) has a circular hole and an adjustable circular fitting to the take the body tube and an oblong mirror which attaches to the back of the plate, also on an adjustable fitting. The case also contains an objective (.3), four French slides mounted in balsam between thin glasses (.4), a copper alloy slider with a glass plate attached with two screws (.5) and a screw with two fly nuts for adjustment to the shutter (.6). The wooden case (.7) has a hinged lid with a locking mechanism, hook fasteners and compartments to hold the parts.
