Description
Microscope in case, late 19th century. The instrument (10043.1) has a pillar with a square cross section that stands on a lead weighted base. An eyecup is mounted on a curved arm, held on the pillar by a sleeve with a tightening screw. There are two optical tubes. The upper tube is carried in a rack and pinion. And the lower tube is held on a fixed bracket. The plane mirror is set in a horseshoe mount on the base. The box (10043.2) is softwood and has a rope carrying handle and a slide-out door that slides upwards and detaches. It has an elongated semi-circular indent near the top for ease of sliding out. A question mark has been scrawled in white chalk in the top-left corner of the door.
