Description

Simple microscope with a curved copper alloy stem with an ivory handle and copper alloy adjusting-screw to separate the two lenses. There are four thin glass discs and two strips of paper also in the case. According to the two strips of paper written in pencil: 'Lens apparatus 1/25 Focus x250 Coddington// Dr William Gairdners (?) Microscope See Encycl. Brit. 8th Ed. article micros.'. Stored in a dark red leather soft-hinged case which is lined in the base with red velvet and in the lid with pink silk.
