Description

Machine to give analgesia for midwifery. This portable version was designed for domiciliary use and incorporates the cylinder and a reservoir bag and Adams valve. Incorporates a continuous flow gas button. Used for nitrous oxide.

Invented in 1936 by Robert James Minnitt (1889-1974).

Comprising of a wooden box with a metal plate as the top surface on which is mounted a rotating disc that controls a piston which acts as a pump. The apparatus has a mains plug and several wires which extend from beneath the box.
