Description

English VALENTIN'S KNIFE c.1870 Signed:'WEEDON LONDON. Steel, with ivory sides to the handle; black leather case lined with purple plush.

This double-bladed knife is used for cutting thin sections of soft tissue, such as kidney and liver. Before sectioning, the blades are dipped in water or glycerine.

A sectioning knife of this type is named after the German physiologist, Gabriel Gustav Valentin (1810-1883). [28.9] Presented by Captain G. C. Damant
