Description

Sextant is of a circular design with a graduated scale running around the rim of the circle. Six spokes extend from rim towards a central platform. Platform has a threaded hole for a wooden handle to be inserted. Mounted on platform is an angled glass square. A mirror is suspended above glass via an arm. Location of arm is determined by a vernier attached to the outer rim. A telescope is mounted along one spoke, and is angled towards centre glass. Instrument is stored in a mahogany box with a key operated lock. An additional dark field lens is also stored in box.
