Description

Chest with top opening with lock; three drawers containing bottles and tubes of mineral samples, labelled and numbered up to 93. Homemade insert above drawer 2 with holes to support the bottles. The samples are from all over the world, but with a large proportion from USA, Mexico and South Africa. The names Dr Griffin and R. Philip occur on the labels several times, as well as the date 1876.

The samples are that of diatomaceous earth, a very fine grained rock made from diatoms.
