Description

Tea chest of assorted clock pieces.

Wooden box with metal encased joints. Wooden frame of box lined with foil and paper. There are three removable wooden slats in the base of the box. The outside of the box is stencilled with 'LONDON' and an image of a tower on two sides, 'COTHA TEA ESTATES LT. S3', '1960/61' on one side, and 'PRODUCE OF NYASALAN' on one side.

There is a metal bracket with two fixing holes, painted green with black and grey undercoat paint visible.

There is a metal clock winding handle in a slight Z-shape. Handle is hollow, winding rods are solid metal.

There is a metal rod tapering in size. Thinner end is cylindrical, thicker end is a cuboid with a screw attached.

There is a metal bracket; flattened end has three holes with a screw through one of them, this end also has a thin piece of wire attached. There is a semi-circular bracket at the other end with a semi circle cut into the side, containing thread for a screw.

There is a T-shaped metal accessory with 4 holes. A smaller arm moves and is hollow with a piece of metal attached by two sets of bolts, washers and screws. Attached to the end of the longer arm with a washer and wire is a thick piece of wire.

There are two solid circular pulley ends. There is a groove around the edge, and a bracket bolted to the centre of the circle with a hook attached to the the end. The bracket with the hook attached moves around the circle pulley.

There are four coils of twisted stranded wire held in coils by thin pieces of wire.

There is a pulley wheel with 4 spokes, groove around the circle edge and a bracket bolted to the centre of the circle with a hook attached to the end.

There is a pulley wheel with 5 spokes, groove around the circle edge and a bracket bolted to the centre of the circle with a hook attached to the end.

There are the hands, shaft and cogs of a clock. Hands are painted black with red tips and decorative circles at the bases of the hands. There are two wooden squares attached to the metal shaft with some broken glass wedged between them. There are two cogs at the other end of the shaft, one large with 4 spokes and a smaller solid cog.

Finally there is part of clock mechanism. It has 2 semi circular metal parts attache with screws around a shaft. There is a metal bracket attached to either end of the shaft with a thick piece of wire twisted to the bracket.
