Fitted wooden box, unusually long. Contains 70 3¼-inch square glass lantern slides in a numbered sequence (complete), all high-quality photographs (gelatine) documenting an ?eclipse expedition, covering the voyage, the astronomical encampment with groups, portraits, and many images of apparatus and observing arrangements, and the landscape. The padding in the box lid consists of 2 isues of The Westminster Gazette, November 23, 1896 and January 6, 1897 (in good condition).
