Description

Album bound in brown half-leather (very worn) and dark wine red cloth. 105 photographs (mostly albumen prints); 2 paintings, 20 prints. Entitled 'Family Album' (later, by A. E. Gunther). Consists of photographs with a few other items. Dates occurring are 1884 onwards, mostly 1880s, to 1894; except for one item dated 1868. The photographs are of places familiar to or visited by R. T. Gunther in his youth, from large commercially produced photographs to snapshots. There is also, among photographs of Drinkstone Park, Suffolk, a series of photographs of Gunther and his father Albert Günther. Processes are mostly albumen prints, with several very fine platinum prints, and possibly a few early gelatine prints and carbon prints; together with some cuttings of engraved illustrations and colour postcards (coloured halftones and chromolithographs).
