Description
Carbon print, printed on stiff cream-coloured paper with an incised line. Portrait of a man, head and shoulders, profile looking right, holding a pipe in his left hand. The subject is thought to be A. S. Newman, who was a council member of the RMS from 1936. Initialled below the image by the photographer, who appears to be the antarctic photographer H. G. Ponting. The two photographs (the other copy is 12081) were contained in an envelope inscribed 'Portraits A.S.N. (Ponting)'.
