Gelatine print. Contained in a medical photograph archive envelope dated 1958. Portrait of Helen R. Purtle, seated at a desk half length, in semi-profile to left, examining a Culpeper-type microscope. Horizontal format; approximately 8 by 10 inches. Purtle was editor of the catalogue The Billings Microscope Collection of the Medical Museum Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (Washington DC; published 1974).
