Description

Albumen print or early gelatine print mounted on card, cabinet format. Portrait of W. T. Suffolk, head and shoulders, looking to right and slightly upwards, vignetted. Slightly retouched. The wordy photographer's advertisement which fills the back of the mount has several interesting features, including reference to their lift (early portrait studios were usually on the top floor or roof of the building, to take advantage of the light).

Formerly enclosed loosely in the RMS album of carte de visite portraits (11837), which contains another portrait of Suffolk dated 1892, where he looks similar.
