Description

Albumen print mounted on card (and trimmed without border), with identifying inscription and note on back, together with adhesive and textile fluff where it has been mounted on a baize display panel. The photograph appears to be an original albumen print, though the condition of the back indicates that it is a companion of 12620, 12621, and 12622, which are copy photographs. It shows the house Sangley Lodge, Catford, near London, home of Frederick Henry and Susan Elliott, seen from a rustic bridge within the gardens, framed by trees and with a lawn in front, where a young woman sits on a chair. The photograph must have been taken about 1870, as the woman is Eliza Blake (born 1850), adopted daughter of the Elliotts; her son Frank Berryman gave the photograph to the firm Elliott Brothers in 1950.
